Overview

Proof Brief ("we", "us", "our") is a Word add-in operated by Technocratics LLC. This policy describes what data we collect when you use the add-in or this website, why we collect it, and how we handle it.

Information we collect

Email address. Provided when you start a trial or subscribe. Used to deliver your license key and operational emails (trial-ending reminders, billing receipts via Stripe).
Subscription information. Stripe customer ID and subscription ID. Card details are handled by Stripe; we never see them.
Usage metadata. Anonymized counts of scan requests per license key — used to monitor rate-limit headroom against CourtListener's free-tier API limits. We do not log document text or individual citations.
IP address. Logged transiently for trial-signup rate limiting. Not associated with your license after the trial begins.

What we don't collect

Document text
Individual citation text or case names
Browser cookies (the marketing site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless)
Any third-party tracking pixels or analytics SDKs

How we use your information

To deliver and validate your license key.
To send trial-related and account-related emails.
To respond to support requests.
To detect abuse (rate-limiting, fraud).

Data retention

Email addresses and license keys are retained for the duration of your subscription plus 90 days. Cancellation deletes the active license; the historical record is kept for billing reconciliation only.

Worker logs (request metadata, no document text) are retained for 7 days.

Sharing

We share data only with:

Cloudflare — hosting, edge network, D1 database, Email Sending. Cloudflare does not access your data for any purpose beyond providing infrastructure.
Stripe — payment processing.
CourtListener / Free Law Project — citation lookup. We send citation candidate strings (not full document text) to CourtListener's open API on your behalf.

We do not sell, rent, or share data with any other third party.

Your rights

You may request a copy or deletion of your stored data by emailing support@getproofbrief.com. We respond within 30 days.
